Does this help with TMD symptoms and/or sore muscles on the face? (click to see more)

While Oralift is marketed as a cosmetic, wellness device and not specifically for treating any disease, it is designed to promote healthy facial muscles, which can be beneficial for those with TMD. However, we do not recommend treating TMD with Oralift unless it is supervised by a professional. If you have been treated for TMD in the past, you can use Oralift as long as you follow the programme carefully and consult with your dentist first.

If your dentist is happy for you to use Oralift, then the protocol has to be slightly modified. After the initial test to check the state of your facial muscles, do not wear your device for more than 5-10 minutes until your symptoms start to clear. The healing process initiated by wearing Oralift starts as soon as it is worn. Wearing it more does not help and in some cases may make things worse.

The other aspect that is very important, is to stop your clenching/ grinding habits. During daytime, note down the times you clench your teeth and the thought process that initiates the clenching. You must then also set up a trigger that counteracts the trigger that starts the clenching. This could involve thinking of something you like or something that helps you to relax. This trigger will then also help you in your night-time clenching or grinding episodes. Keeping a record of this is very important to reinforce the second trigger.

Always remember tooth contact is not necessary for normal function.

All patients treated by Dr Mohindra when he was in clinical practice were helped by this method.
